JobKeeper Payment

Another day, another support package. This time the JobKeeper Payment. Not yet legislated but soon will be, this is a great boost for casual workers & the self employed who may now be eligible for some $ – in some lucky cases more than they originally earned. However, this will increase administration for companies who already have heaps on their plate.

What do you need to do?

If you are an employee who has been stood down, you need to contact your employer and ask to be put back on the books. You must have been employed with them for at least the previous 12 months. If the employer is eligible to receive JobKeeper payments they will pass these payments on to you.

Fact sheet for Employees

If you are an employer or self employed. First step to be done ASAP is to register as an employer/self-employed person who may be eligible. Please do that using this link – be prepared to be patient! https://www.ato.gov.au/general/gen/JobKeeper-payment/

Details are still a bit vague, however to be an eligible business your turnover must have reduced by more than 30% relevant to a comparable period a year ago (of at least a month). If you use cloud accounting software (eg MYOB Essentials or Xero) we will send you complementary reports shortly, showing how to prove if you qualify. If we do not have access to your accounts package please get in touch for assistance.
